Ayurvedic massage is derived from the ancient Hindu medical tradition. There are different types of massage, in some treatments the whole body is subjected to, and in others only a part of it.
Often, though not always, essential oils are used for it.
Ayurveda is a system of medicine that has been developing in India since antiquity. The word in Hindu means 'knowledge of life'. One of the methods proposed by Ayurveda to maintain health is massage.
Its use results from the belief that diseases affecting a particular part of the body actually concern the whole organism. A discomfort experienced in a given place is only a symptom of an internal balance disorder.
